Southwark Home Renovation
South London Reconfiguration and Bespoke Interiors

This two-storey Victorian terraced house in Southwark was remodelled to achieve serene and orderly living spaces that are comfortable and easy to maintain.

The off-white concrete floor of the north-facing galley kitchen reflects the light coming in from the new, oversize double-glazed door, whose fixed frame was concealed to resemble a ‘landscape painting’ with a minimal, ivory frame. The long and narrow shape of the kitchen was broken down into volumes: a long countertop with an integrated bench creates a continuous volume that seeks to emphasise the length of the room and lead the eye towards the view of the garden at the back, while providing plenty of seating and storage space. The countertop along the opposite wall is conceived as a free-standing piece of furniture: a compact, miniature version of the former, that does not extend to the back wall in order to allow for a larger dining space near the window. The existing kitchen door was framed by a bespoke walk-though cup- board, which ties together the warm pine floor and furniture of the hallway and living room with the more neutral finishes of the kitchen. The cupboard hides the fridge/freezer and three storage units. The bathroom was extended to incorporate a large window and sufficient space for both a bath tub and wet room. The long, stone resin double basin and the bespoke mirror-clad vanity unit above ‘link’ the two areas, alongside the use of a single, ivory finish on the walls, floor, shower and bath cladding.
