Houseboat on the Thames, West London
Living on the water in a 1912 houseboat that was renovated and reconfigured in this exceptional location on the Thames near Wandsworth Park provides a more peaceful way of life.
The exterior is clad in cedar timber battens with a rhythm of spacing reminiscent of reeds in water providing shading and privacy from the nearby embankment where the boat is moored.
The boat is split into two decks the upper for living and the lower for sleeping connected by a large double height staircase. The living space is a light filled and large open plan space with sitting, dining and kitchen areas and a snug at one end of the boat all with spectacular river views towards Putney bridge and Hurlingham Park.
On the lower deck there is a more intimate atmosphere with a small sitting room and corridor in dark timber batten panelling referencing the upper deck exterior cladding and a watery beaten metal-clad ceiling providing circulation space to access the four bedrooms all with en-suites.
The houseboat was modified at MSO Marine and the internal fit out carried out by Sam Ogilvie. Konrad Romaniuk was senior architect throughout whilst under contract to Lab Architects Ltd.
